Italian digital identity will also be mandatory for Italian citizens living abroad
As of December 31st, 2022, it will be necessary, in order to access the FAST IT – consular services portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (https://serviziconsolari.esteri.it/), to be in possession of SPID credentials. This is a digital identity for accessing public administration websites and using online services with maximum security and reliability. The requirement applies to everyone over the age of 18.
The activation and use of SPID is free of charge. However, some forms of recognition by operators may be chargeable.
Documents needed to apply for credentials: e-mail address, phone number (including foreign), valid Italian ID (which can be ID card, passport, driver’s license) that may need to be photographed and attached to the form that will be filled out, and tax code (not health card).
How to move for getting it: you have to choose from one of the identity providers and register on their site (https://www.spid.gov.it/en/what-is-spid/how-to-choose-between-digital-identity-providers/).
Registration: enter master data, create SPID credentials, and ultimately perform recognition. Release times depend on the individual providers.

Start using SPID: Once the request is approved, you will receive a notification of enablement and you will be able to access all Public Administration web portals.
In case of inconsistencies, the provider operator will send a notification to the person concerned to change and correct the data/documents.
