CzechInvest Launches First Fintech Regulatory Sandbox in Czechia

CzechInvest has opened the testing phase of the first fintech regulatory sandbox in Czechia, marking a significant step in the country’s support for financial innovation. The programme has selected 21 innovative projects that will test new financial services, digital economy tools and technology-driven solutions. As the first comprehensive government initiative of its kind, the Fintech Regulatory Sandbox is designed to help companies develop products in line with legal, regulatory and technical standards while supporting the growth of Czech fintech.

21 Projects Selected for Financial Innovation Testing

The first programme attracted a broad range of applicants, from early-stage start-ups to established companies. CzechInvest experts, together with representatives from the financial sector, technology sector and academia, selected 21 projects considered among the strongest Czech fintech initiatives in the small and medium-sized enterprise category. The chosen companies include 4Trans Holding, AccuSol, Art Part Club, CCFR SOFTWARE, CLEO Asset Management, CLINPAS, CZKC, Datové účetnictví, eABM, ePRODUCT – Int., Frenk.ai, Investown Technologies, Netera Systems, Olmspol tec, Pay4U, Perun PTC, REPORTING.CZ, Softera, Tekovate, TICKETPOOL and TokenWay. Selection criteria included market contribution, uniqueness, innovation level, need for regulatory testing, business model sustainability and potential for scaling and international expansion.

Fintech Sector Shows Strong Economic Potential

Fintech is among the fastest-growing sectors in Czechia. According to the CEFTAS 2025 study cited in the provided text, the sector generates almost CZK 12 billion in gross value added and contributes around CZK 3.6 billion annually to public budgets. CzechInvest CEO Jan Michal described fintech as a dynamic and innovative sector where trust is essential. He noted that the state must balance the promotion of innovation with consumer protection. The regulatory sandbox is intended to connect these goals by helping demonstrate that innovative financial solutions can be safe, useful and fair.

Regulatory, Technical and Business Support for Fintech Companies

The sandbox is built on three pillars: regulatory testing, technical testing, and business support and mentoring. Regulatory testing focuses on legislative obligations and compliance consultations with experts, including representatives of the Czech National Bank. Technical testing covers areas such as security, penetration testing and ISO standards. Business support addresses product development, business model sustainability, market entry and international expansion. Participants will also work on current regulatory challenges, including DORA and MiCA, as well as issues related to onboarding, payments and other common fintech processes. The programme does not provide direct funding, but offers expert guidance and access to technology testing environments.

Tailor-Made Support for Czech Fintech Growth

Each participant will receive outputs adapted to the specific needs of its business. This individual approach is intended to provide clear feedback on technology, regulatory readiness and business development. CzechInvest lawyer Dávid Revák explained that even established companies may not have considered every aspect of their business model, especially as regulation changes and remains complex. For many SMEs, achieving full compliance can be costly and difficult. The sandbox may therefore help companies prepare for licences or other regulatory authorisations. The pilot phase is currently scheduled to run until the end of April, with negotiations underway to extend it until the end of June this year.
