The Czech Parliament and government have shown considerable activity in the area of labour legislation lately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the recent new proposals to modify the Labour Code, the Chamber of Deputies has suggested a further \u201cflexi<\/em>-amendment\u201d aimed at significantly streamlining the employment relationship, improving its flexibility in order to better align it with the needs of the evolving labour market.<\/p>\n\n\n

The changes, which are currently still under discussion, can be summarized as follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First of all, the probation period may be exercised for a maximum of four months or eight months for employees with managerial roles: this extension would give employers more flexibility and time to evaluate new hires before committing to a long-term employment relationship. In addition, the probation period might also be extended after the start date, while respecting the maximum limit imposed by the Labour Code. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amendment also addresses the issue of salary payments, proposing that certain categories of employees may be paid in foreign currency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the flexi<\/em>-amendment would amend the legislation on parental leave and the protection of workers who fall into unemployment due to an accident or illness at work. Indeed, the employer will have to guarantee the same role for the employee who has requested parental leave until the child reaches the age of two. This measure aims to strengthen job security for parents, guaranteeing them the possibility of returning to work without career damage after taking time off to care for their children. Concerning occupational accidents and illnesses, the Chamber of Deputies proposed the introduction of a special allowance at the expense of the employer’s insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the statutory notice period, which would start as soon as the notice is given, may be reduced to one month in case of a breach of duty or failure to meet requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flexi<\/em>-amendment is expected to become effective on the 1st<\/sup> of January 2025. However, it is important to emphasize that the amendment is still in the middle of a political discussion, which could introduce new changes or revisions before the final version is eventually adopted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering the possibility of further variations, companies and employees need to stay informed about the evolution of the legislative process in order to understand the effects on working practices in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
