Visa, in partnership with ČSOB and Women’s Business organisation, is bringing the “She’s next” programme to the Czech Republic. Aimed at supporting Czech women entrepreneurs, who still face challenges in starting and running their businesses, “She’s next” wants to promote women-led small businesses through funding, training and mentoring.

The programme’s arrival in the Czech Republic follows a study commissioned by Visa to understand the difficulties women entrepreneurs still face nowadays in starting and running their own businesses.

The survey revealed that, on average, women only set up their first business around the age of 30. 35% of them are motivated by the idea of being their own boss, while another 25% are driven by the desire to take on new challenges or change careers.

Looking at the perspectives of former and potential female entrepreneurs, the study found that one of the main challenges is the lack of finance. Less than a third of former and potential entrepreneurs said they had sufficient financial resources to start their business. This problem is further exacerbated by the lack of planning: only a fifth of former and a third of potential female entrepreneurs prepared a detailed business plan before starting.

The external environment also has a significant impact, with around 15% of women surveyed reporting that they had faced prejudice about their entrepreneurial abilities, often feeling underestimated.

Women entrepreneurs expressed dissatisfaction regarding the time they spend at work, often at the expense of their personal and family lives. To alleviate this situation, the study shows that women would like a reduction in business bureaucracy (48%), better access to finance (36%) and the ability to delegate some of the work to employees (30%).

What is “She’s next“?

Launched in January 2019, the “She’s Next, Empowered by Visa” programme addresses the key challenges faced by female entrepreneurs, including raising capital, managing funds, personal development and marketing. The programme connects female entrepreneurs with industry experts through IFundWomen, a dedicated platform that provides funding, mentorship and educational resources.

To further support women entrepreneurs, Visa created the “Practical Business Skills” portal, which offers free educational tools in English and Spanish. These include resources on budgeting, accounting and hiring to help entrepreneurs manage and grow their small businesses. Other initiatives target specific categories of women entrepreneurs, such as “She is next in Fashion“, which provided grants to fifty women’s fashion and beauty businesses in North America in 2022.

Since its inception, the programme has invested over $2.8 million, supporting more than 260 projects in over ten countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Slovakia and the Baltic region.

“She’s next” in the Czech Republic

Thanks to the partnership with ČSOB, the programme has now arrived in the Czech Republic, where it will offer five winning female entrepreneurs, selected by a jury of experts, services worth almost CZK 700,000. These services include a professional audit, legal advice, a tailored mentoring programme, a marketing campaign, an extra business account and other benefits such as preferential loans and a commission-free payment terminal provided by ČSOB.

To participate, Czech women entrepreneurs must apply on the ČSOB website from the 4th to 31st October.

Sources: https://www.idnes.cz/ekonomika/domaci/projekt-shes-next-zeny-podnikatelky-pruzkum-prace-visa.A241001_094537_domaci_pitt

https://www.pruvodcepodnikanim.cz/clanek/visa-shes-next/?ic1=Pruvodce~sheisnext~button-top
