The Czech Republic confirms its position as the strongest economy among post-communist countries of the European Union, ranking 8th in the Prosperity and Financial Health Index<\/a>. This marks its best result so far in the pillar dedicated to the state of the economy. In recent years, however, its position fluctuated, mainly due to the inflation wave that followed the war in Ukraine. Nevertheless, the most recent data indicate a steady recovery. Moreover, since many economic indicators are recorded with a delay, the current situation may be more favorable than the available figures suggest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industrial Structure and Competitiveness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A key strength of the Czech economy lies in its complex and diversified industrial structure. In particular, the level of robotization in the manufacturing sector is among the highest in the region, with 216 robots per 10,000 workers, compared to 81 in Poland. At the same time, the investment rate is significant, reaching 26.5% of GDP. GDP per capita stands at 91% of the European Union average, whereas Poland\u2019s reaches 78%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, these indicators point to an advanced economy with solid productivity and a strong capacity to withstand external shocks. Although Poland is often portrayed as rapidly catching up, the Czech Republic still maintains an advantage in terms of industrial complexity and technological intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Issue of Domestic Value Added in Exports<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite these strengths, a structural weakness remains. Specifically, the share of domestic value added in exports amounts to 58.2%, one of the lowest levels in the European Union. As a result, the economic model is still partly based on subcontracting. While the country produces components and high-tech goods, brands, intellectual property, and final margins are frequently controlled abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By contrast, Poland records a 66.7% share of domestic value added in exports. Consequently, it retains a larger portion of the value generated along the production chain, which has a more direct impact on its domestic economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investment and Future Prospects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although the Czech Republic invests heavily, the issue concerns the composition of these investments. A substantial share is directed toward machinery and production equipment. In comparison, countries such as Denmark and Sweden allocate more resources to intangible assets, including patents, software, and trademarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the weight of foreign direct investment relative to GDP has declined in recent years. This development is widely interpreted as a sign of economic maturation. Therefore, the central challenge ahead will be to strengthen innovation, expand domestic capital formation, and support companies developing their own products and brands. Only in this way can the country increase value added and secure long-term competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
