Testing for covid-19 will continue to be covered by health insurance, Health Minister Adam Vojtěch said after the government meeting. The government has postponed the deadline for the self-payment of Covid tests. “In the whole Europe there is a tendency to an increase in covid cases”, said Minister Vojtěch on the development of the coronavirus infection.
Covid test: insurance will cover the costs
Last week, the government decided that health insurance companies will pay for tests to people under the age of 18 or to people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons or who have not yet completed their vaccination. Opposition parties have repeatedly called on the government to continue paying for covid-19 tests to all citizens. Currently, the insurance covers two covid-19 PCR tests and four antigen tests per month. This frequency will be maintained. “We do not expect full tests in companies,” Vojtěch also said.
The matter of masks
Also on Monday, the government approved an extension of the VAT exemption for FFP2 and higher masks until the end of October. The government introduced a temporary abolition of the 21% Value Added Tax on face masks in early February and was originally scheduled for just two months. Last week, Finance Minister Alena Schiller announced that she would propose to extend the measure for another two months until the end of October. Face masks are mandatory due to the covid-19 outbreak, for example in public transport and indoors.
