Presentation of the Czech Republic’s new economic strategy

The Czech Republic will present its new economic strategy next week at the Brno International Engineering Fair, as announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The event, now in its 65th year, is scheduled to take place from 8th to 11th October 2024 and will focus mainly on engineering and technical innovations, aiming at promoting Czech industry and supporting companies.

The new economic strategy of the Czech Republic plans to rank among the top ten European Union countries in terms of GDP per capita by 2040, improving on its current 14th place. The outgoing Minister of Industry and Trade, Jozef Síkela, emphasized that innovation is key to increasing the competitiveness and profits of Czech companies, generating high-added value. The economic strategy, therefore, aims to help the industry achieve this goal, which is considered crucial for sustainable growth and consolidation of the Czech economy.

According to the Minister of Industry and Trade, the strategy focuses on the following main areas: human capital, energy, transport and digital infrastructure, high value-added production, and the creation of effective instruments for financing strategic projects. Based on an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the Czech economy, the strategy also attempts to invest in education, research, development, innovation and the operational efficiency of the state. Further areas of focus include the reduction of bureaucracy, effective regulation, business strategies and economic security.

Participation in the fair is of particular importance for Czech companies as it puts them in contact with foreign markets. Ukraine stands out among them: with ‘Contact Ukraine’, the Czech Republic not only engages in the reconstruction of the country, but also initiates long-term cooperation between the two states.

The fair will also bring practical support to companies through research and innovation, with the presentation of new technologies and products, subsidy opportunities for companies and other EU services, and partnerships with foreign companies. Among the seminars, the main ones deal with the adoption of 5G networks, the development of hydrogen technologies, the use of artificial intelligence, Digital Factory 2.0, 3D technologies and, for the first time, industrial design as a separate category. Further innovations will include the energy industry and hydrogen technology, demonstrations of technologies used in the space industry and robotic aids in education.
