A total of 21,2 kilometers of new highways and 14,2 kilometers of first-class roads will be opened
The agency “CEEC research” plans to open 21.2 kilometers of highways and 14 kilometers of first-class roads during 2022. This is referred to data from the Ministry of Transport. Considering the work of the past ten years, 148km of highways and 100km of first-class roads have been built. In both cases, the Directorate of Roads and Highways managed the work. However, companies in the sector claim that construction is too slow due to both lack of resources and bureaucracy. A large majority of respondents believe that the conditions of public contracts for highway construction should not be tightened. Still, 42 percent of the companies surveyed do not consider public procurement for road and highway construction to be attractive.
One of the reasons why infrastructure growth is slow, in addition to economic-financial availability, is also the bureaucratic aspect, legislative conditions, the state should therefore focus on simplifying administrative processes. Again, lack of manpower and protests by environmental activists are obstacles.
In addition to road infrastructure, the provision of high-speed rail lines continues, modernizing the Karlštejn-Beroun line, reconstructing the Prague-Smíchov and Prague-Masaryk railway stations.
