The Tax Administration began sending out the necessary information for the payment of property tax for the year 2026 in April.
Taxpayers can receive payment details by mail, email, or through their data box.
When is the tax due?
Property tax for 2026 must generally be paid by May 31, 2026. However, since that date falls on a Sunday this year, the deadline is moved to the next business day: Monday, June 1, 2026.
If the annual tax does not exceed 5,000 CZK, it must be paid in a single installment. If it exceeds 5,000 CZK, it may be paid in two installments: the first by June 1, 2026, and the second by November 30, 2026. Special deadlines apply to certain taxpayers in the agricultural or fish farming sectors.
If You Own Multiple Properties
If a person owns multiple properties, the number of payment slips or payment instructions will depend on whether those properties are located in the same region and whether the total tax amount exceeds 5,000 CZK.
Generally, properties located in the same region are grouped into a single tax calculation. If the properties are in different regions, the taxpayer may receive more than one payment instruction.
Overdue payments or outstanding balances
The information received may indicate an outstanding amount from previous years or an insufficient payment. In that case, the taxpayer must add that amount to the current tax liability and pay it along with the corresponding payment.
Payment Methods
The tax can be paid via bank transfer, QR code, SIPO, data box, or postal money order, depending on how the taxpayer receives the payment information.
If you use a postal money order from Česká pošta, please note that this service incurs a fee. For 2026, the fee is 57 CZK for payments from 1 to 5,000 CZK, 65 CZK for payments from 5,001 to 50,000 CZK, and an additional 12 CZK is added for each additional 10,000 CZK increment.
To avoid these costs, the most recommended option is usually cashless payment via bank transfer or QR code, always using the official details provided in the payment information you received.
